Can I use my Valor during a power outage?
Yes, all Valor fireplaces and inserts operate off of batteries and can be used as usual.
Note: if you have a fan on a Valor insert G3.5 or G4 you may have to add four AA’s to the battery pack by the receiver, on the left side of the unit (see instruction manual).
How do I replace the batteries for my Valor?

Can I use my Mendota during a power outage?
Yes, you received a battery pack with your installation. You will need to find it and refer to your installation manual on how to use it. If you need it, please click here to find the installation manual for your unit. You will want to refer to “Backup DC Power” in the index. The below picture is for a FV33.
What if I have a unit not installed by Hearth & Home of Marin and I need a service?
As of February 2024 we service only gas units that we sold and installed and that are still under warranty, typically units installed within the last two years. If we did not sell you the appliance, or it falls outside that window, please contact our outside service technician, Wayne Foresman with Eco Tech, at (707) 865-9423.
What is the difference between a gas fireplace and a gas insert?
A gas fireplace is a complete sealed firebox that is built into a wall, so it is the right choice for new construction or a full remodel where there is no existing fireplace. A gas insert is a sealed firebox designed to slide into an existing masonry or factory-built wood-burning fireplace and vent up the existing chimney with a liner. If you already have an open wood fireplace and want real heat and efficiency, you want an insert.
Can I put a gas insert into my existing wood-burning fireplace?
Usually, yes. Most open masonry and factory-built fireplaces can take a gas insert as long as gas is available nearby and the firebox opening is large enough. Send us the front width, back width, depth and height of your firebox — our measurement form walks you through it — along with a few photos, and we will tell you which units fit.
Do I need a permit to install a gas fireplace or insert in Marin County?
In most cases yes. Gas fireplace, insert and venting work generally requires a building or mechanical permit from your local building department, and the requirements differ between San Rafael, Novato, Mill Valley, Larkspur, unincorporated Marin and the Sonoma County jurisdictions. Tell us where the project is and we will walk you through what your city or county expects before the job starts.
How much does a new gas fireplace or gas insert cost?

Do you install the fireplaces you sell?
Yes. Installation is handled by our own in-house crews rather than subcontracted out. We do not run new gas lines or do electrical work ourselves, but we can refer you to plumbers and electricians we work with regularly.
What areas do you serve?
We sell and install throughout Marin and Sonoma counties from our showroom at 902 Lincoln Ave in downtown San Rafael, on the corner of 3rd and Lincoln across from Sol Food. The showroom is open Tuesday through Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm and Saturday 9:30am to 2pm.
